UV Coating: How It Can Improve Your Prints

If you have worked with commercial printers before, you may have heard the term “UV Coating” but don’t know exactly what it is or how it can be beneficial to your prints. If you have never heard of UV Coating, don’t worry! We’ll give you a full run down below!

In Simple Terms

Put simply, UV Coating is a chemical treatment which can be applied to various mediums such as paper, glass, plastic, aluminum, and wood.

How is this done?

The process is very basic: UV Coating is applied to materials as a liquid and is then dried under UV light.

How does it help your prints?

UV Coating enhances sheen (luster, gloss, shininess), makes colors appear deeper and more vibrant, and protects the treated material from fading due to UV radiation.

Does CatPrint offer UV Coating?

Guess what? CatPrint offers UV Coating on all 3 thicknesses of our gloss card stock!

While UV Coated stocks do cost slightly more than untreated card stocks, the difference is very noticeable. The increased durability, sheen, and color brilliance makes UV Coating a great option for business cards, promotional materials, comic art prints, or photographs to stand out.
