2015 Chase Corporate Challenge Review

This year, CatPrint participated in the Chase Corporate Challenge for the second year in a row, organized by our favorite Cat-Sprinter, Laura!

Interview with Cat-Sprinter Laura

We sat down with her to learn more about her experience with the Chase Corporate Challenge, and her tips and advice for companies that are considering on participating in the Corporate Challenge!

How did you hear about the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge?

I don’t exactly remember how, but I organized the Chase Corporate Challenge for two years back when I worked at Staples. So when I started working at CatPrint, I thought it would be cool to organize it here, too!

What are your recommendations for companies registering for the first time?

  1. Make sure you get everything on time as the organizers of the Chase Corporate Challenge are not flexible with payment or deadlines.
  2. You should also have a Team Captain that is responsible and motivating, who will push employees to both sign up and show up to the race.
  3. Make sure to decide who pays for the registration fee for the race, as there is the option to choose if the employer pays for it, or if the employee will have to pay for it themselves.
  4. Make sure that if you want a tent site, register for the tent site early. Tent sites go by fast, and you might get a spot you end up not liking.
  5. If your company wants to wear the same t-shirt design to show conformity, and are also entering the t-shirt design contest, make sure to do that early! Finalize the design for submission to the contest, and also send it to your t-shirt printer as soon as possible.

What is your favorite thing about the Corporate Challenge?

It is nice to get together with your co-workers and hang out with them outside of work. The Corporate Challenge is like company cookout combined with a race.

What is the worst thing about the Corporate Challenge?

The worst thing is probably the weather. Every year on the race day, it seems that there is a thunderstorm on the day of, which means mosquitos. No one likes being bitten by mosquitos.

How did you come up with the design for the T-Shirt Contest?

I asked people in the company for recommendations, and Kevin said “cheetah”. So then I came up with a design fitting for CatPrint: a cheetah made of paw prints.

How many times have you participated in the Corporate Challenge?

Combining the years I did it at Staples along with CatPrint, I have done the Corporate Challenge 4 times now!

How was this year’s challenge compared to last year’s challenge?

CatPrint had a bigger turnout this year with almost double the amount of people we had last year, which was pretty cool. We were also faster than last year, and placed better as a team.

In the case that you have interest in participating in the Chase Corporate Challenge, or would like to bring it up to your company, CatPrint researched more on the challenge to break it down for you!

What is the Corporate Challenge?

The Chase Corporate Challenge is a series of 3.5 mile races in cities across five different continents. Companies sign up with a team captain, and employees sign up through their companies. The registration fee is paid for either by the employee or by the company.

What is the cause?

Each city has either one or multiple beneficiaries that are nonprofit organizations.

How are times determined?

Teams are created during registration. There are three separate divisions of teams: Female, Male, and Mixed. In all three categories, the top four times from each company’s team are combined to make one time, which is what will be used in determining the competitive race times. For the Mixed Teams, the top 2 female and top 2 male are considered.

This means that in a way, teamwork is involved! So if finishing the race is not enough motivation for you, then know that your teammates are relying on you to get your fastest time possible.

TED Talk Tuesday: Try something new for 30 days by Matt Cutts

Most of us have probably heard of things called 30 day challenges, where the challenge is to do something everyday for 30 days. It might be to take a photo of yourself or wake up one minute earlier everyday.

In this talk, Matt Cutts talks about how 30 days is just enough time to add or remove a habit from your life. He suggests that you should try something that you’ve always wanted to do and add it to your routine and see how it feels. His reasoning is that 30 days will pass by anyway, so why not do something useful with it?

Who is Matt Cutts?

Matt Cutts might sound like a familiar name to you. He is an engineer at Google who specializes in Search Engine Optimization, better known as SEO. He helps webmasters fix their websites so that they are search engine friendly and is very much against link spam.

Want discounts on prints? Try the CatPrint Referral Program!

Everyone wants to save money, and CatPrint wants to help you with that!

If you didn’t already know, CatPrint has a Referral Program.

What exactly does that mean?

In a gist, it means that for every new customer you refer to CatPrint, you earn $10 in printing, and so does the new customer!

If you refer 10 new people to CatPrint and those 10 people place an order, you earn a total of $100 of printing! That means everyone is a winner!

Just to break it down for you in better detail:

Step 1:

Bad news for new customers: As a restriction, the CatPrint Referral Program applies to existing customers only. This means that if you are a new customer who has yet to place an order, you cannot sign up to be a referrer.

Good news for existing customers: You will be fine! You can get your referral link here.

Step 2:

Share your referral link anywhere & everywhere. You can post your referral link on all social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, DeviantArt, and any other social media platform that allows you to post a referral link.

If you would like, you can also post it on your blog, text message your friends, or send it through email.

Step 3:

After someone uses your referral link to get to CatPrint and places their first order, the new customer will receive a $10 coupon for printing.

Step 4 & 5:

After the new customer places an order, you will also receive a $10 coupon for printing!

That means both parties receive $10 in printing, creating a win-win situation!

The Basics of Setting Up Social Media Profiles for SMBs

Social media and internet: Thank You!

Thanks to social media and the high-speed of the internet, information is travelling faster and further than ever! This means that even if your business is in California or New York, someone in the UK might just happen to learn about your business!

It is really important that as a Small Business Owner, customers can find you on every popular social media platform such as Facebook and Twitter.

This is all completely for your benefit! Not only can current customers communicate with you, but you can also reach out to your potential customers, too.

Social media = brand awareness across the world wide web

Many people who are completely committed to only the traditional form of advertising believe that social media is a waste of time for businesses to spend on, but that is not true.

Being on social media creates brand awareness so that more people will know about your business.

If people talk about your company on the internet, it is more likely that people will know about your business. That means more potential clients and customers for your business! And who doesn’t want that?

It is never too late to start!

If you feel like it is too late to even start creating a social media following for your business, there is something that you should realize.

CatPrint was once an unknown small business on the web. But here we are now, with presence on just about every social media platform there is out there, and we are going to tell you how you can also help your business do the same!

“But I will never be as popular…”

Let’s just make one thing absolutely clear.

It is not a popularity contest.

Social media is not a popularity contest, and it is very important that you do not think of it that way.

Why is that?

What is better to have?

Scenario A:

10,000 followers that never engage with your company, or will probably never buy anything from you

or

Scenario B:

1000 followers who are loyal customers, talk about your company to other potential customers, and actually interact with you on social media

The right answer?

Hopefully you chose Scenario B!

Just as a reminder: creating a social media profile on any of the following platforms is completely free. However, advertising is not: that is something for you to decide on.

Now let’s get started!

Social Media Profile Essentials

Facebook LikeFacebook:

Make sure that you have a Facebook Page for your business instead of a regular Facebook Profile. If you are your business, such as let’s say, a freelance Graphic Designer or a Wedding Planner, you need to also have a Facebook Page in addition to your regular profile.

How do you tell the difference between a Facebook Page and a Facebook Profile?

Facebook Pages allow the public to “Like”, comment, and post to your business versus having to friend request first. It is also important to note that on Facebook Profiles, after having 5000 friends, Facebook won’t allow you to add anymore people.

A plus about Facebook is that you can schedule as to when a pre-made post will get posted. This means you can set up multiple posts in one day that will post in future dates!

Why use Facebook?

Facebook is the number one social media platform today! Only very few people aren’t on Facebook. This means that you can reach a wider audience if you decide to use Facebook Ads.

What are Facebook Ads?

There are a couple of ways that you can use Facebook for advertising and promoting your business.

Promote your Facebook Page: This is to help drive traffic and get more likes on your Facebook Page.

Promote your website: This is using Facebook to get people to go to your business website. This is essentially a Cost Per Click ad like on Google Adwords.

“Boost” a post: This is promoting a post that you have posted so that more people see it, essentially to get more likes and clicks.

Google and YoutubeGoogle+:

Your business should be searchable by people using Google, and Google should also know the physical address of your business. If you haven’t already, get your business on Google and get verified! This way, if you are a local business, when people look up your business on Google Maps, they can find you automatically by just typing your business’s name.

https://www.google.com/business/

Besides Yelp, Google is one of the top places for reviews. If your business is getting reviews through Google, that means your business website will also be getting more traffic and get ranked higher when people are searching for a business that they need!

When you place your business on Google+, it will also automatically create a YouTube Channel for your page!

Advertising through Google:

You can use Google to advertise if you visit www.google.com/adwords.

There are so many possibilities when you advertise through Google, whether it is through Display Ads, Mobile App Ads, Youtube Ads, or keywords!

PinterestPinterest:

If you don’t use Pinterest yet, you can sign up for a business account!

If you already have a Pinterest account, you can also convert your account into a Business Account!

https://business.pinterest.com/en

Although it definitely has a diverse community of users, Pinterest is probably one of the best social media platforms for your business to reach women. Statistically speaking, users who do use both Facebook and Pinterest are more active on Pinterest than Facebook.

Pinterest also recently launched their advertising segment which allows businesses to promote pins! It is also a Cost per Click promotional advertising.

https://ads.pinterest.com/

Twitter BirdTwitter:

Possibly one of the most rapid forms of transmitting information on the web is by tweeting through Twitter.

https://business.twitter.com/

Something we have seen at CatPrint is that a lot of customers will reach out for customer support through Twitter, or even talk about your business (which is usually a good thing)!

Twitter also offers an advertising platform if you visit https://ads.twitter.com/, which is similar to Facebook’s advertising platform.

You can:

Promote your website: Similar to Cost Per Click advertising

Promote your tweets: More people will see your tweets!

You can view CatPrint’s Twitter here:

www.twitter.com/catprint

InstagramInstagram:

Why Instagram?

Instagram is one of the trickier social media platforms use for your business, especially if you feel that you have no pictures to post. But don’t worry; Instagram makes it easy to add filters and transform simple pictures into something more vibrant!

Who is on there?

The Instagram audience tends to have interest in behind the scenes shots & videos of the businesses that they work with. The trend today is that consumers want to know who they are buying products and services from!

https://business.instagram.com/

Instagram also offers advertising options, and is essentially more like Facebook’s post “boosting” so that more people would see your post. This is good for brand awareness!

Start now!

After reading this quick guide, hopefully you will start using social media platforms more than you already do now! The possibilities and potential clients are endless!
